Pewaukee 10   St. John's NWMA 0   (5 innings)

Pewaukee run-ruled St. John's NW Military Academy 10-0 in 5 innings to open the WIAA Division 2 Baseball Tournament Thursday night at WCTC.

St. John's sophomore LHP Brandin Podziemski retired the first 6 batters he faced, and the Pirates looked to be facing a real battle entering the bottom of the 3rd inning.

Freshman LF Luke Sopha led off the bottom of the 3rd inning with an infield single.  Freshman 2B Logan Dobberstein laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Sopha to second, and Dobberstein was safe on a wild throw to first.  Junior CF Quinn Berglin executed another sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third with one out.  Sophomore SS Grant Ross followed with a double to center field to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.  Pewaukee scored 2 more runs in the 3rd courtesy of single by senior 1B David Bell and a couple St. John's errors.

The Pirates extended their lead to 5-0 in the 4th when Berglin doubled with 2 outs to score junior RF Justus Zemberi.

The Pirates scored 5 more in the 5th to end the game via run rule.  The 5th inning rally featured hits by Bell, Sopha (2B), Ross, and senior C Josh Geisel.

Bell, Ross (2B, 4 RBI), and Sopha (2B, 2 R) all had multi-hit games to lead the Pirates.

Pewaukee junior LHP Travis Bentley earned the win on the mound with a complete game shutout.  Bentley struck out 5, walked 3, and allowed just 2 hits.  The Pirates played error-free defense in support of Bentley, and turned two inning-ending double plays.
